(Paris): The French Interior Ministry announced on Sunday, June 1, that two people died and 559 others were arrested across France during the celebrations.
After Paris Saint-Germain's (PSG) surprise victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League final, according to a report by The Lemonde newspaper.
The epicenter of the chaos and celebration was in Paris, which was filled with car horns, cheers, street dancing and fireworks all night long after
PSG beat Inter Milan 5-0 in Munich, Germany. The Interior Ministry confirmed that a person riding a scooter died after being hit by a car in
southwest Paris, and of the total of 559 people arrested, 491 were arrested in the capital, Paris. Meanwhile, another 17-year-old was stabbed to
death in the southwestern city of Dax during a PSG victory celebration. The death occurred shortly after
the match and "during the celebrations."
But the prosecutor's office said it was not yet clear whether the case was related to the Champions League final.Elsewhere, police reported that
a car drove into a crowd of PSG fans celebrating a victory in the southeastern French city of Grenoble, injuring four people, two of them seriously.
All the injured were from the same family.
The Interior Ministry added that 18 police officers in Paris were injured, along with other officers in other regions of France, as well as 192
people celebrating in the streets. Seven firefighters were also injured. There were 692 reported fires overnight, including 264 vehicles set ablaze. Most fans
celebrated peacefully, but police in Paris said clashes broke out near the Champs-Elysées and around PSG's Parc des Princes stadium, where hundreds of
fans were seen celebrating.
48,000 people watched the match on big screens. Police said most of those arrested in the capital were on suspicion of possessing illegal fireworks and
causing public disorder.
